Purple Lupin

Purple Lupin (Lupinus)

This was a surprise - I planted a white lupin, in flower, and this one came up right next to it. A real bonus!

What are the chances of getting more purple ones from the seeds? I love the colour.

No idea at all. I suppose it might - that would be good! I'll save the seed.

I love seeing pics of Lupins on here as I gave up growing them three years ago ... they always suffered from the nasty grey aphid ... the stems were covered in them ... : o (((

Oh NO! Mind you, the cream ones I had out in June have had their leaves eaten by something. It's lucky the plants regrow from the base.

I had a lovely lupin plant with a dozen purple flower spikes then two opened that were purple and white just like the photo, but the next few were just purple - strange but beautiful! The whole plant became heavily infested with the lupin aphids. I've never seen so many of the little blighters, literally thousands! Sadly, the bug gun had to come out. I used a full gun-full of the stuff to try and eradicate them but could never fully get rid of them. Sadly, the only answer seems to be to cut down and destroy the whole plant which I'm really sad about!

:( !!

I'm glad mine haven't suffered from Lupin aphids - it must have been awful, destroying a lovely plant like that. It's odd that you got both purple and bi-coloured flowers from the same plant, though!

Welcome to GoY, by the way. :-)
