.With the exception of the two large conifers in the left of the photo there were no plants at all in this garden when I took it on about 3 years ago.
The brief was to have a low maintenance garden with interest all year around. This was achieved by planting mainly evergreen perennials and small shrubs to cover the soil asap. Dahlias ( left in the ground all year around) provide summer colour and I plant about 40 annuals (pelargoniums/petunias/begonias) to give more colour in summer/autumn. Winter colour is provided by about 20 winter flowering heathers spread around the garden
I maintain the garden for an elderly customer and cut the grass, trim the edges ,hoe the open soil and trim plants and shrubs for this and the front garden in just over an hour a week ( . This is the rear garden. There is a slightly smaller front garden with about half of the plant borders seen at the rear.)
