Dont blame you, i'm of to Gardeners World next Saturday, hope there's a few bargains there, i try to buy a plant every time i go to a garden event, think i'll be treating myself to a grass plant.

had one of these given to me 2years ago - an offshoot of an established plant...the plant it was taken from is really spectacular! the black berries look like black pearls - and before those appear there are spikes of tiny pink flowers...
you got an absolute bargain there!! v expensive in the garden centres :-)

Thanks Jeanette i know i couldn't turn down a bargain like that :-)
13 Jun, 2011
it was the right decision!! like you, I am a sucker for black flowers (or leaves!) :-)
13 Jun, 2011
Thanks Jeanette, yes i love Black it's my favourite colour, but i also like blue flowers,,, i've got some young black bamboo i'm waiting for it to change colour on !!

snap! got the black bamboo! I'm a bit disappointed with it tho - planted early last year but lost quite a few leaves this winter, new leaves are slow to show...and the stems are not a colour anywhere near black! I have an idea this happens as the plant matures?? :-)

That's a shame i lost some leaves to, but they will grow new stems, they change colour on their third year apparently.. i have one stem that's nearly black so with any luck it may get better now :-)

that's good to know - a case of patience then!!
there's hope for my plant yet - only got to wait another two years...!
I go to a local garden centre that has a beautiful 'thicket' of this plant with really black stems, I will ask next time I go how old their plant is!
is there a plant that has yr ideal combination of black leaves/blue flowers?..have racked my brains, can't think of one...??! :-)

Meanie had one a salvia, green leaves but black stems with rich blue flowers think it's called black and blue.. it's on my to get list for next year :-) i did get a nice hyacinth with black flowers i have a photo, it's called 'midnight'..

If this is happy you'll have a lot of Black grass!
Hard to believe that garden centres around here are asking up to a fiver for this - you simply dig a bit up and transplant it. It has interesting flowers too.
