Love this close-up Jacque, is it Hawthorn ? When I was a kid we'd play in the local woods at Shooters Hill (S London), climbing trees and investigating birds nests and squirrel's drey's. I'd be shoved into a bath when I got home and my arms would sting like mad because of all the scratches made by Hawthorn bushes. Loved by wildlife but NOT by little boys !!! Lol ;~)

Hi MuddyW yes its Good Old Hawthorne :) lol My Ponies used to love eatting this stuff & my Dad called it Bread&Cheese??? :)

Bread and Cheese ? Was your Dad familiar with the countryside ? Yellowhammers like to nest in Hawthorn and are often seen singing from the topmost branch - their song is described as sounding like 'A little bit of bread and no...... cheeeeese' ;~)

Ahh yes bread and cheese who could forget that !
Brill pic. Jacque , you can see the new life shooting already ..

There's a programme on BBC 4 tonight at 9pm called Hop,Skip and Jump it's about a persons childhood in the 1920's .. the games they use to play ,collecting birds eggs , being allowed to play out all day to get dirty , break a few bones etc and how they ammused themselves with no TV , it should be interesting .. :o)

It's a funny thing Jacque I never had a broken bone , I don't know how I got away with it , I had rusty nails through my foot and things like that , we use to go like crazy down hills in woods on old bikes with no brakes straight into stinging nettles .. LOL..

Ah, those were the days - no mortgages, no taxes, no responsibilities, no worries, no cooking, no ironing, no cleaning STOP ! This could be a long list, so I have to stop and go cook my daughters' tea. Lol ;~))

They really don't Jacque , if they haven't got something electronic to play with they look lost and don't know how to amuse themselves ...
We always make a point of taking the grandchildren to catch crabs and have a dinghy on the river they get filthy dirty ,wet through and love it ....
