Thanks Motinot. I have been wondering if I have damp or dry shade and havn't been sure which. Seems like you are right and moss would grow in a damp soil.

I just added some cinnamon fern roots behind the hosta's in the one blank spot left. Between the last ferns and the daylily's. Should look good next spring.

Does the moss under my hosta plants indicate that I have DAMP shade rather than dry? Have never been able to figure that out.
