A large and beautiful flower.

I suspect it's a breeder's name, don't you think? Like 'Gerwat' instead of Geranium 'Rozanne'. Not an attractive name anyway....:-((

Not really lol I'm getting a bit suspicious of 'named' aquilegias. Last year I bought some seed directly from a breeder. The name was A. 'Elegance' and had golden foliage and very dark purple flowers. The breeder did warn me that not all would come true. As it happens, only about 3 of the plants have the dark purple flowers, although they all have the very attractive golden foliage. The other plants have either pale blue or pure white flowers. It seems to me that with Aquilegias, they are so promiscuous that it's a bit hit and miss what you end up with and therefore can they properly be called varieties if grown from seed? As it happens, all is well with 'Elegance' as I actually prefer the white and pale blue ones to the dark purple lol I'll do a blog when I've got a minuet of my Aquilegias, as I'm building quite a collection! Oh dear, another obsession....... ;-)

This one seeded itself, and the new plant flowers are the same as 'mum' - and it's fine again itself, as you can see. This year, though, I have an extremely 'weird' one in the front garden - no 'skirt' petals at all, on any of the flowers! I'll post its photo tonight.

Carrie Thomas at http://www.touchwoodplants.co.uk/ says a lot about aquilegia seed growing, Sid. Very informative.
