Birds nest fern needing help.. (Asplenium australasicum (Birds Nest Fern))

This 11 year old plant was 2 in one pot...well,to make a long story short,2 ruined the symmetry of the plants, and raccoons and cats had knocked this plant over so not much soil was left.
This is after dividing and new soil. I still want to plant some small things around it.

Waddy.yep,a bit neglected. It soon should look better.

Its too shady for sedums Penny. I also know that some things that cant take dry fertilizers will burn out. Dry pellets is mostly my preference for all the yards and plants. Small plants handle it well...ground covers tend to burn.

I'm hoping since I moved this plant away from the fence- it had been right in front- that should end the cats and animals using it as a launching pad to go up the trees.

I get way too much wildlife!

I think too, when those leaves are fresh- very tender and wonder if just watering them causes those ugly black marks? Or too dry maybe at the wrong time?

I grew them there and never had any of those black marks. I wonder if it's some kind of bug eating them that makes them black.
