So glad you asked Janey, now I get to brag alittle...lol. This is a hybrid, crossed by Richard Hartlage, an undergraduate at North Carolina State University, he performed a series of reciprical crosses between Sinocalycanthus chinensis (Chinese Sweetshrub or Wax Plant) and Calycanthus floridus (Carolina Allspice or Sweetshrub) to produce what was considered a new bigeneric hybrid that was named ×Sinocalycalycanthus raulstonii ‘Hartlage Wine’. Now you see why I'm bragging, he's a good ole hometown boy !
I have the native Carolina sweetshrub. I'll post a photo of it, so you can see half of this one's parentage anyway.....:-)

Wish I was talented in that area of gardening. I'm afraid I have to leave the propagating to the pros...lol. But like you said, I'm happy for him !

This is a fairly new cultivar Marguerite, don't know if it will be popular enough to be sold worldwide . Will have to wait and see.

That's so cool Fractal, glad to hear it's popularity is catching on. I just love mine, it had a few shoots that reached over 6 feet tall in a season !
