Hello I'm Janey and have a very old walled garden which came with the cottage we bought 8 years ago, after spending the 6 previous years restoring an old olive farm in Cataluyna Spain.
The wall to the left of the garden is clothed with Ivy, Honeysuckle, lots of spring flowering Clematis and Golden Hop. The other side of the garden has a high sandstone wall belonging to the pub next door and is quite shady, I have planted a wall Hydrangea and a red Paul's scarlet Rambling Rose by it with a white Mrs. Jackman Clematis scrambling through, these being very happy with the lack of sunlight there.
My favourite small trees in the garden are an unusual Laburno/cytisus which flowers in 3 different colours, a beautiful standard Tamarix tetandra, and my very early flowering weeping cherry, Snow Showers.
Later in the autumn I'll be planting lots of tulips in any spare places for a riot of colour next spring.
