A close up of the kapok...which is used to stuff pillows and other items in Brazil, where this tree is native. Photo taken July 13, 2010 in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA.

No, the flowers are huge hibiscus-like red, white or pink flowers which cover the tree profusely in late Summer or early Fall. The kapok come out of a big seed pods...the seeds are in the kapok. : > )

I didn't realize it was still used around the world for stuffing. Here in the U.S. almost everything is synthetic.

Oh yes its very much still used, I find for toys it works much better.
