Sixpence:
Thanks! It generally likes a pretty shady spot...however, it's looking quite good in this spot.

Sixpence, Palmate:
Chamaedorea oblongata is a very easy and fast growing palm. I have several tall (8ft/2.4m) ones in the front yard.

This is a palm. lol! :>)
I have many of these palms in my front and back gardens.

oh no i have done it again, so sorry!! there is a similarity though isnt there?
maybe its cos i have such a shady garden it grows ferns quite happily but palms wouldnt be happy!!

Yes, the fronds on palms look very similar to ferns.
Many palms love shady gardens; however, many palms don't like cold temps.

i am looking at one fern out of my window now, shrugging off the snow ~ unless the snow gets too heavy it doesnt seem to mind the cold at all.
not sure the palms would want to be in my garden!

It must be a very hardy fern.

i have a couple of them, i love them

Have you ever posted any photos of your ferns?
I have several photos posted of my dwarf Fijian tree fern, which I love. I have a link to one of my many photos below.

I looked at the photos. They're all terrific! I really like your garden. It's so green...here in San Diego the gardens are typically never that green. I have to water my plants everyday; however, don't have the green lawn everywhere. It would cost too much money in water (and so many times we are under water restrictions).

we have very occasionally had hose pipe bans but i think most of us blame the water companies for not conserving water and mending burst pipes??
luckily i like green very much, thank you delonix, i would be happy enough with hostas and ferns ~ all green!
i do have to water if there is an extended period of dry weather but that doesnt happen often! or if i have put in new plants; its a fairly sandy soil ~ very free draining plus i think those huge oak trees behind are probably drinking up a lot of water?
