they do get large, but you can prune hard. :-)

yes mines in virtually full shade between house boundaries.

Yes I have the same conditions at the side of my house there is a peice of garden runs along the path to the front gate and damp and shaded, I have now changed my mind as you said it needs cutting back frequently.
