Thank you Sandra. Its marginal here in the SF bay area. Its taking a chance..but it looks so nice against that wall,I have to give it a go.
btw under it, is "Tahitian Bridal Veil" nearly ever blooming and rampant grower.

As long as it's in a protected spot it should do well. When I lived in Hayward I had a few; however, when we would have a somewhat heavy frost they would get zapped. I know Hayward is pretty frost-free...although, every 5 to 10 years you get those colder than normal winters.

Exactly. Those are a blanket or sheet for cover periods. This did get stressed by last Decembers arctic outbreak..lows of 28f. But then,it was on the porch..now just eaves for cover. But that spot and plant has sort of a Key West/Caribbean vibe....

I never get stressed by cold here. Here on the south-side of Montezuma Mesa we don't get frost and temps virtually never go below 41ºF and that's only a few mornings during the middle of winter. The coldest temp in 11 years (that I lived here) was the January 2007 cold which was the coldest weather in 60 years to hit San Diego. The coldest temps I recorded during that cold snap was one morning at 34ºF and two other nights at 37ºF. I had no damage to any plants...and a few weeks later all my papayas were ripening and very sweet like candy. I used to have a papaya forest in my back yard.

Officially we never went below 30f last year. But,it was a long 30f then. Plenty cold. But,a week later we were back to near 70f sunny..what a strange year. If not for a few days in early December, it was 60-90's the rest of the year.

The coldest weather I had at my location was in the 40's F.
Most likely 44ºF. It felt pretty much like summer from the middle of December through today's date. I'm sure it's one of the warmest years on record for most of Southern California. We'll see what this winter brings, though...let's hope for lots of rain!
