Echium

Echium (Echium)

One of six that I have grown from seed last year. I believe they take two/three years before they flower. But when they do bees and insects a plenty.

Very lush looking. How hardy are they?

They originate from the Canaries, as I understand. Mine have been left to their own devices all winter and pulled through. I visited a garden last weekend and the chap there covers them with a fleece when it's cold. They grow to about 12ft and are a bee magnet. They should also self seed.

Thanks Treesandthings. Our climate is much colder in winter than Hampshire so I guess they would not make it.
