This is a plant with a story :-)
The bulb comes from Cuba, my homeland. The "mother plant" where the bulb comes from was once given to me by my grandpa's oldest sister. That one is still growing in my parent's garden in Camagüey (the city i was born in) and blooming like crazy, sometimes it has more than 10 spikes at the same time. I estimate it is at least 22 years old, proving that bulbs can live quite long if given good care. In my last trip to my motherland i took just one bulb out of the plant i once planted when i was a girl. I "smuggled" the bulb (my face turns red) in my luggage and was thrilled to see it arrived in Holland in excellent shape :-)
Once planted that bulb began to grow very fast and you see the results after two years: already four spikes. Eucharis blooms mostly just once a year in this climate, but the rest of the time you have a nice green plant since the leaves are more attractive than other bulbs like Amaryllis or Crinum. The flowers are beautiful as you see and looking a bit like daffodils. They are very nice scented too!

That's beautiful Holantina. The flowers are lovely and the foliage looks very lush and attractive.
I also like your "twirly" up in the corner. I have a very similar one that I've had for years. When I first got it, it was irridescent colours like a bubble. Sadly over the years the colour has disappeared. However, it is my favourite ornament in the garden. It is fascinating watching it in the wind.

Great story. Are you growing this indoors?

Yes, i'm growing the plant indoors. Being originally from a tropical rainforest climate type, it doesn't like drought and full sun. I've tried a few times to let the plant spend de summer outside the house in order to have more space in here. Well, i have to be very careful it doesn't get any sun. The first time, it happened and the poor plant looked very bad. Some leaves were like "burned" i have no other way to describe it. And that after an our or so of sun in The Netherlands, where it is not so strong anyway!
Also, the bugs find the big green leaves to be very tasty :-( and you have to constantly keep a good eye on the plant , hahaha...
You know what it does like outdoors? To be put outside during a warm summer rain. You see the results right away.

Beautiful. And what a history to it! I'd have this one in under my nose all the time, just to give the extra care.
I'm just starting a bulb collection. I'm very excited to see what I can collect.
