Thanks all, Amy this plant is several years old, it had got to around 5ft, then during the hard winter 2 years ago it got cut back to the ground by the weather, it is now back to around 3.5ft so im hoping it comes through this winter unscathed :o)

No I let it take its chance I dont think the cold we have would kill it, just cut it back.
