Ruby Ficus update. (Ficus elastica (Assam Rubber))

Cut back in April. It had branches taller then the studio. Since its potted..that was just too much. Going for compact crown.

What I found when I bought a 3' saucer to put under it? It had sent two thick roots into cracks in the asphalt. Since under that is 6" of concrete..it wasn't like it had rooted into the ground saving me water. Nooooo. It would go dry almost as fast as ever.
So I cut those roots and with help lifted that tree into place and where the whole thing can sit in a few inches of water that is caught..not just washed away like before.
I pruned it a little more..those big leaves coming forward were cut back.
Big potted plants?..they are another science to gardening.

Amazing Stan. Pretty resilient, tough old cookie this one! Like the “ruby” colouring.

Thanks Kate. By the end of the growing season,I think you will see even more change. It would have been a large tree if I had an estate..it really wants to grow.

I do love the coloring. I sometime see a very large tree of this variety. I mostly see large variegated trees, though.

My other favorite is Ficus elastica 'Decora' 'Bugundy', I've seen very large trees here of this variety in San Diego.

That's a beauty..deep black leaves and red sheaths.
This one of mine is looking even redder..new shoots since this photo.
Plus I have a new used Canon 16 mpixels, that doesn't seem to do that fisheye lens thing like my old camera did in this photo. I hated that and the background blur sometimes.-lol.
The old cameras port died.
Used one was $40. Enough for plant pics!

It has a very beautiful two-toned look to the tree.

Sounds good to have a new camera. I take most plant photos with my iPhone camera these days.

I have a phone thing android with a camera....but its so slow to start up. This camera is actually light..easy to carry. Lighter than my old Canon point and shoot, minus that fisheye thing and more pixels..I notice I have to be careful on sharpening the photos. A little bump is enough compared to the 60% or more with the old one. DO those I phones have a flash? Or macro lense closeup?
I notice that the best can really make a sharp close up photo.
Mines not the best..ha.

Yes, the iPhones have flash and and macro. I have the iPhone 7, the camera does have HDR. The newer iPhones have extremely sophisticated cameras,
