First ones this year
Comments on this photo
I planted some bulbs of these a couple of years ago but they are just starting to send up shoots now. It was a mixed pack and I only got one light coloured one last year. Tuesday I bought some pots of them as they are going over at the garden centre and each has one lighter one in the pot. The others are all darker. I wonder if the lighter ones like different soil conditions? I do like yours they are lovely.

I think the whitish ones are less common,Sheila.I bought a bag of dry bulbs from Woolworths and hoped for the best. These seeded from the origional patch. They seed like mad here.

I've only recently been able to grow them at all. I read somewhere that they prefer a neutral to alkaline soil rather than an acid one so I planted a mixed bag in the front island bed where I grew my potatoes a couple of years ago. It has quite a lot of dead lime and sand from the old mortar in it and the herbaceous perennials seem to enjoy it. I have quite a few up and flowering in that bed. I'm hoping these will seed. The ones I grew last year on the west side of the pergola are only now sending up spears of foliage. They will probably not flower for some time.
