Hedychium rubrum

Hedychium rubrum (Hedychium rubrum)

The red ginger. The yellow ginger is in bloom, now this, and later the white one will flower. I have a couple of others in pink and apricot that I am waiting for the first flowers.

Stunning I bet the apricot one will be glorious.

That is VERY nice. I forget about that family. I've had gopher problems and sooner or later they find them.

I am taking a chance with this - the yellow one is a thug, and the seeds will germinate all by themselves. I am crossing the two to see if I can get a different color. The stigma is the little speck on top of the anther, and it seems to be like a daylily in that it produces a liquid to take the pollen down to the ovary.
