I rub my nails over a bar of soap before I start, I often wear nail varnish too and when I've finished they get cleaned off. Lots of hand cream also. And gelatine, my mum swore by it either a jelly baby a day or a cube of jelly from the slab that you dilute down. [I suspect that was a ploy to stop me biting them as I was a terror for that when I was little]
I guess I am lucky as they are flexible and rarely snap. Wash up without gloves too.

Oh that's your secret is it I remember a friend telling me to stick my nails in soap before I went out into the garden but I never did it I guess I should start doing it , I use to work in the surgery at the 'Chivers ' Jam & Jelly factory the girls on the production lines all had beautiful nails it was claimed it was the gelatine that did the trick ... your mother was right about that :o)
