While clearing up the leaves I managed to grab a few before the squirrels got to them.

Thanks TT - we also have hazelnuts but they've been stripped by the squirrels already!

At the vet clinic where I take my Sheltie, there is a large walnut tree overhanging the car park. In fact, as I get out of the car, there is danger of walnuts falling on my head...LOL.... but lots of the walnuts look diseased....sort of dark in colour... not healthy like yours above...
Do they get disease ?

That could be the outer husk falling off - the walnut shells are inside the husk and of course the walnut is in the shell. Too much water though can cause Walnut Blight I believe.

oh wow, so lucky to have these! Fresh walnuts taste amazing. We once had some from a friend's tree and I'll never forget the experience.

They certainly do Weeding. I also crush them and put them in Banana cake - delicious!

I really don't think any would make it past my mouth into the cake mix.
