My Goldfish plant never ceases to amaze me. It blooms through anything. Even the colder than normal weather here in San Diego hasn't hurt it or stopped it from blooming (it's suppose to be very tropical). It's been in the same spot for many years. Photo taken Jan. 14, 2013.

I think it's hardier than we think; however, not sure how will it will tolerate sub-freezing temps.
I should have turned my plant because most of the flowers are on the other side of the plant. lol! :>)

Well, if it gets that cold here I might just bring it indoors. It looks really good at the moment.
Yes, you should have. ;o))))

Yes, that would be a good idea.
I'll just take and post another pic. :>))

It's warm and humid again. The weather this whole week was gale force winds, heavy rain, hailstones, lighting, and thunder. It's going to be like this thoughout the rest of the week.

It's going to be warm and dry the whole week and beyond here (according to the weather forecasters). I'm happy and the plants are happy too.

Lucky you.....my plants are not very happy!
17 Jan, 2013
Why are your plant not happy!
Yesterdays' high here was 76ºF (25ºC) and today may be 80ºF (27ºC), most likely it will be, because it's already 71ºF (22ºC) at 9:30 a.m. What a difference a week makes! We're happy San Diegans again! :>)

It's been grey, humid and wet here. YUK YUK YUK. I would rather it be sunny, dry and cold.
The plants don't like this weather either.
I can't even go work in the garden everything is soaking wet.
Glad you guys have your normal weather back. ;o)))

Yes, the weather is very warm...I'm so happy! However, with this being said: I did notice a few plants didn't look so well after this usually long cold spell. My Crotons looks like it's wilted (I'm so upset because I almost lost due to a bug infestation back in summer of 2010) and it was looking so terrific! I'm hoping all the leaves don't fall off. Crotons are extremely sensitive to cold weather (being native to the tropical South Sea Islands). Sometimes it take a week for the symptoms of cold damage to show up. It's not like frost damage which show up pretty much immediately.

That's amazing!
So in theory I might be able to grow one in a frost free greenhouse?

Meanie:
In theory, I guess. You have to consider a few things, though. The amount of hours of cold (extremely important!) and sunlight. When we get colder temps they last literally only 10 to 25 minutes...then the temps rise pretty quickly. Most likely this plant is best if daytime temps stay at or above 60ºF (15.6ºC).
My plant is blooming like crazy now. We've had 5 days at or around 80ºF (27ºC).

You make a good point there!
"We've had 5 days at or around 80ºF (27ºC)."
I do believe that you may be gloating again Mr.Delonix!!!!

Considering we just went through one of the biggest cold snaps in years....yes, I'm gloating and extremely happy it's warm again!!!
Today the high temp here was 82ºF (28ºC), some places in the county were much warmer. It's still 65ºF (18ºC) at around mid-night (which is really warm for this time of year, for this late at night).

And I'm happy for you too!
If it would just warm up here...................

Meanie:
I've seen some of those really cold temps which have been recorded over the last week in London, England. I know you live an hour drive or so from there. I'm guessing you're experiencing some of the very cold temps, also? I hope it warms up for you!
The low temp here this morning was 61ºF (16ºC), which is well above the normal average low of 50ºF (10ºC) and it's already 74ºF (23ºC) at 9:30 a.m. It's going to cool down next week to normal temps, though.
23 Jan, 2013
About 2ºc cooler here than in London...............
23 Jan, 2013
That would be pretty darn cold! I hope it warms up to your normal temps soon!

Mine hasn't stopped blooming here either. I don't know how it will do if the temps drop under 0C.
