I've never come across one before - I expect there'll be more colours by next year. :-)

That is beautiful

Different, isn't it. :-)))

20 Jun, 2011

lovely shape and beautiful colour ~ so different.

20 Jun, 2011

I just had to have one when I saw them. :=)

20 Jun, 2011

i would have felt the same but i know i cant have one cos they need the sun.

20 Jun, 2011

They do indeed. Is all your garden shady, then?

20 Jun, 2011

Mostly yes, large trees, which don't belong to us surround the garden.

21 Jun, 2011

That's difficult - our previous garden in Kent was like that.

21 Jun, 2011

i like it but it has its drawbacks, its best in spring when the leaves are only just beginning to shade the garden.

the upside is that it has slightly acidic soil so i can happily grow camelias, azaleas, acers, pieris etc, all of which i love; i find the greenery as fascinating as the colours in a garden but OH would like more colour and more sun.

21 Jun, 2011

I only had one patch of sun to sit in, and I used to have to move my chair across the paving as the sun moved!

I hated all the leaves all over the place in the autumn...and they weren't even from our own trees!

I gardened on clay and flint, too. :-(((

21 Jun, 2011

i have done the moving chair game ~ our previous garden was smaller and faced north!!

the leaves!!! they never stop! and they are oaks which seem to shed tiny almost dust like flowers everywhere in the spring. the oak leaves dont disintigrate very fast either.

next time we are looking for a sunnier garden with far fewer trees!! i would like to see the sky!!

havent done the clay or flint ~ i imagine that is quite a challenge, i might resort to pots of plants??

21 Jun, 2011

I did - and a hanging basket by the front door, too. Yes, we had oaks, plus hornbeam and beech. All shedding leaves by the zillion each autumn, on and on.

Those acorns - and baby oak trees everywhere! Eeeek! I'm glad we moved. (We had Jap. knotweed, too...)

Never again...

21 Jun, 2011

oh no!! knotweed is not good! we didnt have that but we did have ground elder everywhere in the last garden.
this garden does have lovely light soil so at least the weeding isnt too difficult.

21 Jun, 2011

I still feel a bit guilty that we sold the house with Knotweed in the garden! Well - a 'very' little bit. ;-)

The soil here is amazing after clay 'n' flint! I don't enjoy hitting the rocks we have, but it took me ages to get used to pulling a weed out and the roots coming with it!

21 Jun, 2011

that must be a huge change. i dont think i would ever feel guilty about the weeds i left behind!!
on the day we moved from our last house [and i was very unhappy about the house we were moving to, as well as trying to do my final piece of work for my degree] i had a feeling that the people coming in weren't interested in gardening so i pulled up my big white lily and took it with me; 6 years later, judging from my old front garden ~ now covered in weeds ~ i dont feel at all guilty, im glad i took it!!!

21 Jun, 2011

Good for you. :-) I don't want to see our old house again - I know that the new owners made a lot of changes to both the house and garden.

23 Jun, 2011

We have changed this house quite a lot, OH says he thinks the previous owners would like to see it but I don't think they would, I'm sure they would rather remember it as it was.

23 Jun, 2011

Yes, I'm sure you're right.
