Are these from the previous plant? Or am I confusing things?

They are Gee19, I couldnt name the last two photos before and after, it wouldnt let me.
These are the little skinny stems that I wanted off the plant. I will use them in the spring as plant supports for some tender young things.

I visited a grand house (friend was the butler!) several years ago and they had black bamboo in the grounds - they were huge and very, very tall. Is your plant the same or a smaller version? Sorry to keep asking questions but I like your plant very much - wonder if it would take over my small garden.

Hi Trees, my husband did the same to ours early last year, he got about a dozen canes, as you say very useful and also decorative.

Gee it is quite slow growing as bamboos go. It can be grown in a pot. My book says "make sure it is Phyllostachys nigra and ignore any with names such as 'Henonis' or 'Boryana', lovely those these two are, their canes are specjled and brown, rather than the coverted deep black colour."

I have had one in a pot for 2 years... first year I had 2 spikes around 6 foot tall,,, lots of leaves and branches. I didn't cut these down and then I got another 2 spikes this year... It still has leaves on now and I'm hoping that this 3rd year will be it's spectacular one!!!

What a great idea! Not seen black bamboo before, I like this for plant supports. Will blend better than the regular bamboo I should think.
