This tree is loaded with fruit. The is the allspice of commerce. It's ready to pick when green like these. Actually, the leaves are the best for cooking; however, many people outside the tropics cannot grow this tree. This is why the fruits are ground and sold. Unfortunately, the leaves do not dry well and this is why they are used fresh, only! Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on Aug. 21, 2012.
