A very old variety of Bourbon type magenta coloured Rose, from a sucker.

I thought rose suckers were from the rootstock Siris, usually wild roses. If that's not the case I might have a go myself.

You are correct Thorney. This is a very, very old French variety probably a precursor of the Bourbons. Most modern Roses are grafted onto a wild type rootstock, because they are strong growers, so you would only get the wild type rose.
I will show you a picture of the flower, in a vase. This has a while to go!!
