Salvia Sclarea (ID sorted)

Salvia Sclarea (ID sorted) (Salvia sclarea (Clary))

25 June 2014
For Simbad :-) Flowered for the first time :-)

It's grown so huge (at least to my eyes); far taller than I expected. Maybe I should split it sometime? I'm not sure. Perhaps it's better to wait and see how it will go next year and decide?

By the way I noticed this doesn't look like "Salvia Patens" at all when I looked at Garden centre photos. I must have put the wrong name tag on the seedlings!

It's Salvia Sclarea Tommymoo and a lovely clump too :-), it says its either biennial or perennial some here have come back for several years others haven't but it will self seed so keep your eye open for seedlings:-) or collect seed to be on the safe side.
Did you get my email ? The iris are all planted out such lovely big plants, thank you :-) x

Its lovely, Tommy, I'm beginning to like Salvia alot.
Kathy, I have one Salvia sclarea turkestanica which is massive, its a beauty at the moment. So are they perennial or biennial, just that my original ones seem to have vanished.

Thank you for your kind comments Simbad & Dawnsaunt!

Simbad,
Thanks very much for your precious advice and info. So it's Sclarea "Piemont"? My darker-coloured Sclarea comes back every year although I don't know if it's because it's biennial/perennial or it self-seeded. I hope this one will do the same anyway :-) I love the gentle colour of this Sclarea. Thanks once again for the seeds!!

Oh I was wrong, "Piemont" is the darker purple one, so this must be Salvia sclarea "Turkestanica" which Dawnsaunt has.

See who else is growing Salvia sclarea (Clary).

See who else has plants in genus Salvia.

This photo is of "Sclarea 'Turkestanica'" in Tommymoo's garden
