Spathiphyllum 'Sensation' - Sensation Peace Lily Flower

Spathiphyllum 'Sensation' - Sensation Peace Lily Flower (Spathiphyllum 'Sensation' - Sensation Peace Lily)

My Sensation Peace Lily Flower opened 6 days ago...then severely wilted in the 108F/ 42.2C temp. last Monday. It luckily is planted in a very shady position or it would be dead from the heat wave this week. Photo taken Oct. 1, 2010.

42.2C...wow. I'm so glad we won't feel that until next summer. I don't think it went that high this year here, it was a nice hot summer.

Alexandramou:

This time of the year can be very hot and dry...however, our summer was cooler than normal and now the weather has been hot and humid which is more typical of summer. It's been a very strange weather year here in California. We're not sure what to expect next. : > )

I know the feeling. We had a rather mild summer...not too many heat waves this year. But it's October and still HOT... It would be nice if we have a nice mild winter. ;o)

Alexandramou:

I hope it cools down for you soon...and is a very mild winter! : > )

Generally, Oct., Nov. can be very warm to very hot...as we get into Santa Ana Wind season. The Santa Ana's can bring temps up to 100 degrees F/ 38 degrees C. in late November. Temps greater than 90F/ 32C can happen any time from November - April due to Santa Ana Winds...even though it overlaps the rainy/wet season.

wow, what is your lowest temperature in the winter?

5 Oct, 2010

Alexandramou

No, the average high tepms in January (the coolest month) is 68 - 72F / 20 - 22C. However, during a Santa Ana it can be much, much hotter.

ah, so you don't ever get cold!!! Lucky lucky man.

Alexandramou:

We have a warm subtropical climate. During winter...the night time low temps rarely go down below 45F/ 7C. in the urban areas. However, in January of 2007
I recorded a temp of 35F/ 1.7C (my coldest temp ever recorded) during San Diego's coldest spell in 60 years...and inland canyons and valleys got much colder.

5 Oct, 2010

We have a similar climate then. Will keep track of temperatures this winter, we can get a little colder than you over there...by a few degrees maybe.

Alexandramou:

I checked out some of the temps in Corfu...they are definitely cooler than here in the winter. I've seen freezing temps there and record lows are considerably lower than here. The last time the official temp got down to freezing in San Diego was 50 years ago (it's only been down to freezing about 11 times in 150 years). However, I think latitude plays a role there...Corfu is at 40 degree latitude and San Diego is at 32 degrees latitude. : > )

Yes, I'm sure a lot of thing are at work here.....I will make my own little chart this winter of our temps..have a little fun. ;o)

Alexandramou:

That sounds great! I used to do that myself. I have a weather center and I used to log all temps down on an Excel Spreadsheet. : > )
