Mandarin Ducks

Hi we have had quite a few mandarin Ducks on our pond this year ,six pair and one male on his own! We put up nest boxes in the trees and one pair has just had 13 chicks !they stayed around for two days and the went off to the wood across the road. The odd male tagged along with them ,every now and then he was told to clear off but took no notice . we are now eagerly awaiting the next clutch!

What beauties they are, so exotic looking. What a shame the chicks don't stay around for you to watch them grow. Maybe you could get some photos of the next brood before they take off to the woods too :o)
