Off to the local shows

Yesterday I headed to one of the many local shows going on in my area in August. They have had setbacks due to the foot and mouth scare here in Surrey but managed to put on a good show anyway.
The weather just about held out and people turned out in there hundreds to come and parade their dogs, horses, geese, cakes, vegetables, flowers and much more.
some of the vegetable entries
The horticultural tent was filled with flower arrangements and fantastic looking vegetables (above) and, although some of the roses looked a little ropey, the dahlias looked fabulous!
I love this arrangement in a basket (below) – it just sums up summer for me.
Local shows are well worth attending and supporting – it looks like I will have a busy summer!

I must say i do agree with you that local shows are well worth attending and supporting. Now that The Shrewsbury Flower Show is over i shall be exhibiting at local shows. This coming weekend will be The Minsterley Show, which is mainly agricultural with the farm animals (I don't know if they will be there this year with foot & mouth, but i think they could be if farmers can move animals in this area?) They also have a home produce / horticultural tent, which is where i will exhibit!
