About me
I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to gardening and, so far, have kept the garden (just over a quarter-acre) simple with lots of lawn with edgings of trees and shrubs, making our patch quite private. But now that work (I'm self-employed, working from home) is down to a trickle, I'm keen to start learning about composting, growing vegetables, etc. I have two compost bins ... one for household scraps and the other for leaf litter (mainly small leaves such as oak and Japanese maple) ... we live adjacent to a park and it seems all the plane and giant magnolia leaves (the size of dinner plates) like to finish their days in our garden. Some of these I reduce to mulch size with a leaf vacuum machine and place around trees/shrubs or, as we tend to get knee-deep with the jolly things each autumn, rake up and burn.
