Have just aquired 3 more stone troughs, will pop a pic on in the next few days but all this nice weather has got me thinking! they will be sunk into a patio stone wall around 3ft high, patio below, lawn behind. what can i trail from them?? got some lovely Nistursiums (apricot colour) growing in the greenhouse but need 2/3 plants to go alongside them. dont want anything too tall….

you could put in some thyme cos it smells nice, alpine phlox are tiny but make a good show in the spring and trail nicely over a little wall.

Hate to say it but i have so much space, all my herbs are around the greenhouse, and that is on a different lawn, too far away for lettuce too, Aubritia 'Red Cascade' growing in the G/house. Hmmm .... leave it with me shall come up with something, i hope! Thank you X

lots of the alpines will trail, pinks would be nice cos they smell delicious
how about trailing fuchsias or are they too big?

thanks honey but i am yet to be convinced of pansies, i have 1 x Viola Mrs Lancaster and i love her (Larch Cottage Nurseries @ Penrith..), and thats it!! Think too much rain for so many alpines, three A.Phlox have managed to see this year ... just, Why is it that i am just so upset when i loose something?? am only just 30, will this get worse??!! :-(((

Yes it will I'm afraid :( Much worse - very much worse indeed ! lol
What about heathers ? I know they don't trail but they would give some winter colour.
Or Ivy - that trails, and it's evergreen. And you can get some very nice variegated ones :)

It may sound silly, but if you go the Goypedia page for Hanging baskets, you'll see many ideas for trailing/hanging plants. Just scroll to the bottom of the page, click on H, then on Hanging basket plants. Worth a look I think. I wish you well in your search! : o )
