Some of you might remember a blog I wrote about a pheasant in my daughters garden end of January , well he is back my daughter took a picture through her window of him in the bird bath , he seems to have taken a liking to her garden she don’t know what to put out for him to eat ? I told her he must know there is always something cooking at her house with 3 fine boys always wanting feeding lol.

Oh yes I well remember him, I'm really pleased to see he is still about and obviously he knows he is safe there, he does look comical in the birdbath, also not sure about food for him but he looks healthy so don't thinks he is going without....

I was going to say raisins too. Have you read Dahl's Danny the Champion of the World? Its about a poacher who put out raisins soaked in rum. The pheasants all got drunk and fell out of the trees. He filled his sacks with them and carried them off, but when he went to get them in the morning they had recovered and all flew away again. Its very funny.

I would not encourage him by feeding him or he will make dessert of anything that takes his fancy eg crocuses, pansies even iris reticulata flowers. In the wild they eat grass, seeds from commercial crops and insects. If you want to feed him then pigeon food, corn, wheat etc will suit him very well. They are omnivores and will eat almost anything.

Thanks Scotsgran, I told her about sultanas but she said if she put them out her dog would eat them as he loves them but she as been told they are not good for dogs ... I think he can fend for himself :-))

I think birds only really need water. If you live in the country there is usually plenty for them in the fields and verges, but we do feed our birds peanuts and fat balls. We enjoy watching their antics.

Yes I agree water is what they need but I spend I fortune on sunflower hearts and enjoy their antics as you said :-)

Excellent! It seems so funny seeing a bird as big as a Pheasant in a garden birth bath!!
Not sure what they usually eat but I would think they'll eat any seeds, peanuts etc that other birds eat!!
