Spring in the air?

What a very odd winter we’ve been having. Spring like weather for weeks, then two snow falls and sub-zero temperatures. Fortunately, despite all of these surprises, the early flowering plants seem to have survived. The hellebores, which had started flowering a good month in advance of normal, are doing well.

Meanwhile, the hamamelis which is in a big pot on the patio outside the dining room window is in flower. This morning it was lit up by the morning sunshine and gave us a lot of enjoyment as we looked out at it while eating our breakfast.

Spring must be in the air when the hellebores and hamamelis are in flower. Meantime, there’s quite a lot of ‘housekeeping’ work to be done. Unfortunately, thanks to a fall on some ice just before Christmas, and then snow clearing a few weeks ago, I am now suffering from a bad bout of sciatica. The housekeeping will have to wait. But I’m afraid that it will be too late to do some of the repotting and such that I was on my To Do list. Just goes to show: never put off….

You poor soul -sciatica is horrible. But those hellebores are enough to cheer anybody up aren't they?

I'm sorry to hear of your fall. I hope you will have recovered a bit by the spring. Nice to see the plants enjoying the mild winter.
