Wildflower meadow project

I was never happy with the overgrown “dwarf” conifers on the small patch of land at the front of my house. I havent yet decided what Im going to grow there as a permanent feature but I had the idea of growing a wildflower meadow as a temporary measure.

First job was to cut the trees down and clear the ground ready to prepare the soil. I rearranged all the rockery stone to create more of a wall leading up to the road level. The soil was dug over and raked to a fine tilth and the seed was put down at the beginning of April.

As there seems to be an abundance of cats in the area I decided to cover the ground with some netting to deter them from using the area as a litter tray whilst the seeds germinated. What seemed like an absolute age later little seedlings began to show and as the weather has slowly become warmer the rather scraggy, weed like plants have finally started to come into flower. Its not perfect as there are a few gaps here and there but hey, it’d be less than uniform in the wild anyway.

If I rememer correctly there are over 30 different types of flower in the mix that I bought……. Plenty of variation and colour anyway.

Sorry about the pictures, Ill get some better ones on a brighter day.

Beautiful. I'm thinking about doing that under my apple tree but I'm not sure iif it might be a bit dry.

Haha, this post was posted ages ago but thanks. I wouldn't worry about the soil conditions, wildflowers generally grow in poor soil anyway so I'd give it a go!

Oh and the garden has changed massively since then, I'll post a pic later
