After the Storms

I finally ventured out into the garden yesterday, after the wind and storms of the past week. My peonies have been decimated, just heaps of pink petals on the garden!
I’ve also lost my Nelly Moser, my oldest clematis and another one looks like it may have clematis wilt. However my clematis Blue Light is flowering more profusely than ever.
Had some rarer vistors to the garden this week, a very large fat squirrel who keeps stealing the seed from the bird feeders and a racing pigeon landed yesterday. I tried to catch it so that I could return it to it’s owner but it kept flying up on the roof, then sat there watching me. I haven’t seen it this morning so hopefully it found it’s way home.
We have lots of new baby birds about. The usual gang of young sparrows, racing each other round the garden and chasing each other in and out of next door’s rose trellis. Also our usual early blackbird young have taken over the garden. Yesterday a young goldfinch, all brown body and bright yellow and black wings, was flapping and chirping ‘feed me, feed me’ whilst it’s parent was on the nyjer seed feeder, a wonderful sight.
I’m off now to the local car boot to buy some more bird seed and see what interesting plants are for sale. I might even find a replacement for my Nelly Moser!
