re bird on chimney

Hullo Well everyone I am quite used to seeing herons. The river Ebbw runs parallel with our Avenue and Tredegar park is 5 minutes away where we see herons perched on trees beside the river bank . Can you imagine an ostrich on your roof? Well we know they cannot fly, but this bird was enormous . I dismissed crane although that was my first thought. However when I saw a news item featuring them just 10 miles away I thought that that was entirely possible. Even news items are filmed several days before showing and one of them could have had a little reccy across the water. Over and out

I know this was not a heron or a stork. When it flew away it looked like a massive wild goose ; outstretched neck and legs outstretched to the rear. I still maintain it was a crane. Keep your eyes peeled in Somerset or Gwent. Wetlands please.

I wish you'd got a photo lilypad. I have seen Storks on roofs abroad, nesting on chimneys, but not a heron. Apparently Storks are going to be re-introduced into this country after about 100 years. Will the birthrate go up?
