Our Allotment

I thought I would try and give this blog writing a go while the homegrown veg is cooking for tea……
Arriving at the allotment this morning we managed to break our flask of tea unloading plastic containers of water out of the boot of the car, not a good start!
We have only really been watering seedlings to help them on their way, pumpkins, tomatoes and the lettuce, there is no way we could water everything, they have had to survive on their own, but everything seems to be doing ok.
First thing was to have a look for veg to take home, huge cougettes, that seemed to have grown over night, carrots, runner beans and a cabbage.

Our shed is only small ( I don’t do sheds that have a possibility of having spiders in them) so a week or so ago we built a rain catcher out of old wood and thick plastic sheeting, today we planned to make it bigger, to hopefully catch more rain and to use as a rain shelter/canopy. Not long after starting we heard the rumbling of thunder and in the distance the sky was black.

We had to make a run for the car and sat there for half an hour while the rain passed over. A cuppa would’ve been good, we were parched!

Between more heavy showers we did get it finished, we did catch some rain and were able to shelter from the rain. Job well done.

Uploading the photos now it seems the photo of the completely finished rain catcher/shelter/canopy is missing off my camera but here are a couple of it nearly finished.

What a lovely idea, 'a rain catcher' sounds like the title to a movie !! Brilliant idea and your veg looks really lush, hope you enjoyed it! Would love to see the real rain catcher now, more pics please!

Your produce looks lovely, you have every reason to be proud of it. As for that freaky carrot, another one for Esther Rantzen!
