LIttleK's gardening exploits

Seeds didn’t work – only the sweet peas as usual. The rest came up but didn’t survive. Have now bought proper seed compost as they probably don’t like being grown in soil enricher!!
Arbour now in place by pond and clematis armandii nicely spreading over it. Wonderfully strong scent when it was flowering. Rose Mortimer Sackler (David Austin) apparently doesn’t like being grown in full sun. I planted it to grow up the arbour and I do keep watering it, but whenever the sun comes out it droops and blooms dry out. I think I’ll move it to behind the arbour, where it’s roots will have more shade.
Other roses, Golden Celebration and Lady Emma Hamilton seem very happy out the front.
Have tried again with Gauras. Will protect them over winter this time. Also, the place I had them before, nothing seems to grow well – not even sweet peas!

I'm not very good with seeds usually littlek but this year I grew them on my indoor windowsills as the conditions were more constant than in the greenhouse & I saw them every day & remembered to keep them moist etc!

Gauras R usually a tough little plant, they love heat & my thrives in my gravel patch, I swear, it grows just like crazy, maybe the heat, but believe me POOR soil, so do not give up. I also cut mine down when it is 14cm high to force it into a clump & not to be leggy. Try it.
