New Year - New gardening resolutions

Happy 2010 everyone!
Well I’ve been off work for weeks now with a slipped disc, so haven’t been able to do any gardening – not even fleece protection – but I did manage to get out and shake off the snow from our young eucalyptus trees before everything froze and to take a couple of photos for posterity – proper snow!!
At any rate – I love this time of year – all the garden planning and ideas for what I want to get done this year and spent yesterday looking through my notes from 09 and setting out what I must get done before Spring is on us (seems distant at the moment!).
So, what are your gardening resolutions for 2010? Mine include establishing a proper veg patch and cutting back some massive shrubs before they get out of hand!
I’ve also been busy launching a new website, stalkyourself.com>>, finally live after 2 years planning (and I might add some great advice from growsonyou founder Ajay!) and we’re tracking people’s goals for 2010 – hope you’ll check it out and add your 2010 garden resolutions there too!
V!

Yes, I'm worried about the big thaw and what will have suffered under all this snow too!
Sixpence - that sounds great - we get lots of birds in our garden but have two cats so have to be careful - we only hang food high in the trees etc as bird feeding tables or anything like that might lull them into a false sense of security!

I have lots of cat s in my garden they walk along the fence, also come into my garden, I have had them nest in a bird box close to the ground one that has a steak in the ground, if you have large shrubs or climbers you could hide them or disguise them.

Like Bokersbon our present goal is to survive this weather and keep feeding the birds. It is tiring just going outside when it is this cold. The plants in the two greenhouses have been covered with fleece for so long they re probably wondering what the heck is going on - that is the ones that are surviving this.
We've already sorted out our veggie. seed order (or rather Mr MB did) now I will actually place the order on-line today.
Beyond that we will just continue to look after our gardens.

my new years resolution are
1. to actually use the fleece that I bought last autumn...next autumn. missed the boat a bit now.
2. not to cry when the snow thaws and I find out what has not survived
3. not to be too quick sowing my annual seeds which then have to languish in pots because its still too cold to plant them out
4. to mark the areas where i have planted bulbs so I dont spear them with the garden fork

Mine is to remember to keep up my 'Gardeners' Log' that I started, kept up faithfully for 2 years, then stopped for a whole year (family troubles). It is such a useful reference that I really must DO IT. There isn't much to record at the moment, though - no gardening possible! :-(((((
Of course the most important thing is to 'think positive'. We'll get through this cold weather at some point - and spring WILL come!
Yes, I must also order seeds and plug-plants.

Sounds like you are going to be busy.
I don't make new yr resolutions any more because I never keep them. However I have many plans for my garden, one of which is erecting a greenhouse.

It's not a new years resolution because I decided it in the summer 2 years ago. lol
And if it doesn't get done I won't feel guilty, but I am going to try and put it up when my helper can help me :o) I'll show photos of it :o)

Forgot my most important resolution - to finally get our compost bin working! I'm guilty of only remembering it occasionally and am sure it still won't have any useful compost for us this year. Must remember to compost our kitchen waste and some cardboard too!!
