The Hywel Cottage Garden

Close plantings. I like it that way in a cottage garden and a Goy member mentioned that I planted in a manner similar to Hywel hence the name of my garden. Here are some end of season photos. Before that I must mention that my New Years Garden Resolution to keep down the weeds was a total fail. It has been worse this year than ever. We have had sunny, hot weather with an adequate amount of rain and I have never seen such rapid weed growth these past several weeks. So goes back the bird feeder, general fertilizing, annual planting and a ton of mulch to spread around next spring….. Now, back to the pictures…..
The things I have to do to remain inconspicuous…..
A Lotus sunrise….
This place was a good respite for the birds in the hot weather…..
A mix of zebra grass and mandavilla vine……
There’s been an abundance of sun so my solar fountains have been going full blast……..
No more pinching back Coleus, now you can do your own thing…….
Sedum, here come the floral clouds of the garden…..
I know it’s a weed but this one looks so good covering the back fence…….
A water wall flower….
My Lobelia grew to a height that I never have seen before…
Did I give him a goosey after I took this picture?…..
Do you see what I see in this picture????
If not, let me give you some help….
Looks like Valentines Day had a second blooming.

I have a grass type weed that grows on the plants themselves with no root system at all and it is practically smothering my plants. I am still trying to figure out what it is and where it came from Paulspatch.

Blimey....that must be a devil to control! I really don't know of that one and can't ever remember seeing weed seeds germinating on a plant in the garden.

IT certainly looks like valentines day in your garden. That's remarkable.

I like your heart plant, lol....

Beautiful colour and I love your statues!
I liked to plant very close at the old garden(cottage type beds) which helped keep the weeds down to a degree but totally different style in my new garden.
We, too, have had lots of weeds this year.the weather is ideal for them......mainly dry and warn with sufficient rain to help them germinate!
