Special Plants

I spied the sign to this nursery last weekend. Hubby and I paid it a visit!
hubby stayed in the car listening to The Archers and I took myself off to see what I thought would be just another nursery with same old, same old!
Now I have been to 100’s of nurseries but this one….well, it was like a little piece of Heaven…
This is what greets you at the entrance! So much to see. All their plants are homegrown!
This stunning Foxglove…..I thought it had jumped into my trolley but sad to say, it hadn’t!
This, I don’t think I have seen before, A blackcurrant sage, Salvia Discolor. They had run out of plantlings but it’s on my list to buy next year!
In their glasshouse, there wer an amazing selection of Pelargoniums
And this little beauty, which I hope will selfseed all over my garden, I can only describe as a Sea Poppy! It’s a gorgeous creamy yellow!
I bought 2 shade loving Saxefragias, not sure if their flowering season is over, so may have to wait till next year
This bathtub of flowers was at the entrance of their glasshouse!
And all these succulents on a shelf above the tub!
My purse is alot lighter after my visit! I bought quite a few plants including lots of Salvias ranging from bright pinks to salmony pinkey ones and of course a few blues! I have planted them up in pots and placed them withing my new border so I can bring them in for the winter!
The nursery also has an open garden which you can visit on most Tuesdays at 2pm but it’s worth looking at their website just in case that changes.
The nursery is called special plants…..off the A46 between J18 of m4 and the little roundabout on the way to bath. So worth a visit if any of you are close enough!!

How lovely Bloomer, you will have to show us pics when you go. And next time I am in Yorkshire, I can go too, except Yorkshire is a big county!

This one i have looked at several times .the American lady (Derry Watkins ) who owns it is quite high profile and does workshops, and sales at hardy and unusual plant fairs over quite a distance.
I first found her when she lived in a cottage further up towards Castle Combe many years ago.

Meanie
slow down and check the prices.

I thought it such a fantastic nursery! I met Derry, who was very happy when I filled my trolley! I thought the prices not dis-similar to other gc's and nurseries......

Lovely Lulu - it isn't actually that far from us either :):):) Love the excuse of it jumping into trolley :D must use that too :):):) Great buys there. That saxifraga looks very nice

Bjs - spoken like a true Yorkshireman! I'm always up for a bargain, but would rather pay a little over the odds if I can see a plant first rather than go down the internet route.
Fortunately, we've found a cracking little nursery that has a good selection of the unusual just ten miles away, and at VERY sensible prices too!

nice plants Lulu:) in my case plants I buy jump into my eyes, not into my trolley, lol.

Beautiful nursery, Lulu, it's nice to be able to find a small place, that is able to offer some of the more special plants available! I saw a nursery van today, with an address I'd never heard of before, so I'm going to investigate tomorrow!

The plants look good but that woman is a nightmare. We have had her twice to give talks at our Garden Club; she charges a fortune and 'forgets' to bring half the equipment needed (this time she arrived without a stand or extension lead for her projector). I bought two packets of seed and they both came up as astrantias (which wasn't what I paid for) - grrrr

I agree Andrew not had any contact in recent years but when I did my experience was similar.

me about 20 mins too, I wonder if Meanie has gone and bought my favourite Foxglove!! I shall be demanding some of next years seedlings! Apparently Meanie they grow true to seed!
Andrewr, oh dear, that would annoy me! I have a friend called Juliet Wilmot, who used to have a fab 'open garden' she knows her to. Says the plants are special but really need to be hardened off!

How lovely,Lulu..and nice to find somewhere different, and so natural looking..:o)Your plants sound lovely too..I have just heard of a place just out of town..which I am going to try..It is all looked after by people with Down's syndrome..and all the money raised,is ploughed back in,..how lovely is that ? .Apparently they have grown them all themselves..I have lived here 40 years..and never heard of it before..just shows how you get to know things, from a casual conversation at the pub..:o)
