My Garden

I have to hold my hands up and admit that i haven’t been very good at writing anything on the site, but i have been checking out what everyone has been up to. Firstly i am a bit techno phobic and i haven’t been able to get my camera to download any of my photos!! Having four children and two dogs plus a bit of a garden keeps you busy!!
Have had more success than i ever imagined i would, have managed to grow a good supply of cabbages, spinach, lettuce, peas, beans and mangeouts, carrots, beetroot and a few other veggies and flowers all in pots!! The children weren’t overly impressed with eating beetroot greens the other night but i was amazed at how nice they tasted. Sometimes i think you think your own veg is just the bees knees!! We are all eagerly waiting for our potatoes, grown in bags might i add, the children are loving seeing the flowers on them and i think it is worth a million dollars to give them this experience.
We were just wondering, what are the best veggies to grow for some of your own over the winter. we have about 60 leeks growing, but what else do my gardening friends grow. Would be glad of the advice

Carrots can be grown until there is a frost, parsnips taste better for having been frosted (turns the starch into sugar), ditto swedes, kale will grow right through the winter too. I'll post again if I think of more veggies.

Nothing like giving children the experience of growing their own so they know where it comes from. Not to mention how good it tastes! It's something that stays with them into their adult life, when they'll be growing their own!
