Container gardening experiment!

Our back garden is split into two relatively equal parts – a lawn and a patio. As you can see it’s a bit bland at the moment. However, it’s the only place I’ve got to grow things, and dear Mrs James doesn’t want me to dig up the lawn into a veg patch.

So, we’ve decided to try container gardening this year. We’ve got two varieties of tomatoes, three varieties of chillies, one pepper, some lettuce and some herbs.

What I would like to know is what plant varieties are ideally suited to containers, especially chillies.

Everything is, as long as you keep it well water & good soil, plus manure etc. I love my veggies in containers, except garlic.

I grew 4 big tub-fulls of potatoes this year and had a good crop too. My neighbour has kidney beans in a tub.
As Doon sais use good soil and keep well watered. ( well the raion would do it for you if you lived here lol- it's poured down all summer ) )

Hywel: Potatoes, runner beans, broad beans, spring onions and leeks are all on the agenda for next year, as well as chillies, tomatoes and herbs. So in all honesty I think I've got enough to be getting on with.

Doon: I tried garlic this year as well - no luck with them I'm afraid.

All: I may - with Mrs James' blessing, invest in a mini wooden greenhouse to put against the wall of the house so I can start growing earlier.

garlic is an easy one.............do not over water, or else disaster, they love rich "sandish' soil ( I know not a word, but so discriptive ) take the blooms off immediately etc. Google it LOL!! If you want a new kitchen, garlic is a must.
