Having been missing from GOY for a few weeks, and then returning, and then being missing again for the last few days, I’m sure you wonder if my interest in this website is as keen as it was when I first saw it!

Have no fear ladies & gentlemen!

Mrs James and I decided to cut some of our bills (that’s an effort I can tell you), and one of the ways was to move from BT to Talk-Talk. They offered us a package that would include free Broadband Internet (they’ve bought Tiscali, who we were with anyway) and a great deal on the normal house phone. It seems they have made the changeover already! However, when I went on the internet on Monday morning I could get connected.

It turns out that Talk-Talk had kindly changed my user name and password without telling me! This was discovered after an hour or so on the phone with Tiscali (India, I presume), and then ending up getting an IT Consultant (a friend of mine luckily) to work on it for most of today, including installing a new Router (instead of the modem). Did you know that ‘modem’ stands for MOdulate/DEModulate?

Anyway, as is blatantly obvious to you all – daddy’s home (again)!

It happens to be Mrs James’ birthday today, and because I couldn’t get the wireless headphones that I know she wanted I went and bought her a lovely wooden bird table for the garden, handcrafted locally! (I’ll try and get a pic of it tomorrow!).

But Monday was a bad day for me, it must be said!

As you may have gathered by now I do like my photography, and I’m a member of Rye & District Camera Club. Last Saturday evening we had a guest speaker at Rye College – it was none other than Joe Cornish, who is probably one, if not the most renowned landscape photographer in this country. It was a brilliant evening. However, he was also going to judge one of our club competitions on Monday evening, which was actually the very first competition that I’ve entered. I was really looking forward to it.

On Monday morning I lost my Internet connection – as previously mentioned! I tried all day to get it back, but to no avail. In the end I had to get myself ready for the evening’s camera club meeting, and to get my images constructively judged by Joe. I switched on my bedroom light – but didn’t! Something went ‘pop’ and we lost all the upstairs lights – not good! I checked the fuseboard and realised that a fuse had gone. I didn’t have a replacement, and wouldn’t be able to get one until the Tuesday morning. I had to leave the family with no lights upstairs, and had to leave without having a shave (its pretty dark in the bathroom, plus time was not in my favour at that particular point!)

I got to the club and listened as Joe judged the ‘print competition’ first of all. Just as i thought, he was helpful and constructive with his advice. I waited with baited breath for the ‘projected images’ to be displayed so that he could judge mine. The projector blew up! It has to be sent back to the manufacturer’s for repair – no competiton could be judged.

My first competiton entry, to be judged by The Master (as far as I’m concerned), and the projector blows up. How bad?

Still, life goes on. We trundle on day after day, taking the knocks as well as the smiles along the way. Swings and roundabouts of life.

OOPS not one of your better days then merfyn, sorry my wicked sense of humour made me have a little giggle at you fumbling about in the dark trying to get ready. It wasn't friday the 13th was it ?

"When sorrows come, they come not single spies
But in battalions." - how true is that, Merf! Like buses.

Dearie me, what a day....week.....month!

Let the Good Times roll!

Sorry everthing kept going wrong for you, i hate those days when nothing seems to go right, but after i can find the funny side.

Oh dear Merfyn, what a bad time you've been having. All this technology is great when it works but makes us feel lost when it doesn't. Our phone/Broadband package was switched over on Monday....result, no phone or GoY for most of the day, What's a gal supposed to do.........housework? Not likely......a trip to the garden centre works wonders! :o))

I did exactly the same Merfyn, changed from BT to TalkTalk. It took a while but I think it's quite a saving.
It seemed much slower at first and on one occasion I found myself saying 'oh for heavens sake, it was easier to put 4 (old) pence in the slot than dealing with all of this.
Then I remembered that it was about 50 years ago and a long walk to a cold 'phone box.

Lol lol so you had fire works early then he he I would say thats your wife emmiting over serge for not ordering her wireless earphones in time for her for her birthday. Happy Birthday Mrs Merfyn James. A power other than technology I believe exsists. Also leaving her in the dark lol, I believe in connections, "wireless",head phones "no power" no head phones for birthday. So you get no power pc, bang goes the fuse so you can not shave, bang goes the projector.

Just in case the next time you have no light go to the £1.00 shop and by the lights for emergency which are battery run and you can stick them on to a surface, just pull the string and you get light.

Happy Birthday, Mrs. James!
Wondered why you'd been so quiet, Merfyn, but figured we can't live online all the time (can we?). Someone, perhaps PaultheGardener, mentioned a wind up "torch" he used to harvest veggies at night; we got one for camping that you crank a handle and no batteries needed.

There are times when you think SOD IT (being polite). Never mind Merfyn as you said swings and roundabouts, Happy Birthday to Mrs James and I bet she was happy with her present anyway, you can always get the headphones for xmas......

Oh dear Merfyn...everything that could go wrong did go wrong...but as you say....take the rough with the smooth...that's the way to do it! Hope Mrs James had a good birthday & you are technologically trouble - free from now on! :o)

Ladies & Gents!

Thank you for your kind comments. It must be said that i found the whole story a bit amusing as well - but not at the time!

I didn't quite leave dear Mrs James in the dark. All the downstairs lights, and all lights connected to a wall socket were working, and we've got an army of torches. Do you really think I'd have gone out to the camera club and leave my dearest in complete darkness.......ummm......really?........I'm not that cruel surely.......am I .........?!?

Anyway, everything's up and working again now, so all's good! The Internet's even a little bit faster as well!

24 Oct, 2009

I am pleased your lights are now all working, also you internet working faster thats good you can come on more often now then lol :D

Just remembered that you're from Warwickshire Morgana.

A few years ago my nephew got married in a lovely small church in Warwickshire (can't remember where, but it was just off the M40 where that biker got shot as he rode home from the Bulldog Bash). The reception was at a country house near Warwickshire Agricutural College. Eerie.....but within a year both the church and the country house had been burned to the ground!

I will ask my brother which one it was as he live in Warwick it self I live in the county not the town.

So, you're looking forward to Halloween then? We've got a great Halloween Fancy Dress Karaoke night in the pub next Friday evening. The only problem is that when its busy the pub tends to 'forget' to shut!

I've got a bit of a bonus tonight actually! They asked me to go into work to work a night shift overtime (double-time), so i said yes because I had no other plans! Of course, the clocks go back tonight so they'll be paying me for thirteen hours instead of twelve! Bonus!

24 Oct, 2009

So what will you be dressing up as the grim reaper he he cackle cackle , if they look out at midnight, as the pub forgets to shut, they might catch a glance of me flying over, if they are quick enough.

Its good to get a bonus especially if you need the money but not if the tax man takes it from you to give to the strutting peacocks of white hall for their pocket money.

24 Oct, 2009

I don't know what to dress up as at the moment. No doubt some inspiration will come my way before then!

I'm afraid the kind man from the tax office is going to slap my bonus for a 40% tax! I bet he looks forward to me working extra hours!

24 Oct, 2009

Of course he will for the Strutting peacocks of white hall to gain more wealth. lol Why not go as Merlyn close to your name too.

Did you mention a "Wizard, Morgana"?

Us going to school party as:- Eilidh (Wicked Witch of the West):- James (a zombified Scarecrow), and Moi (a rather sneaky, green Wizard). Yes, we bring our garden themes to life - Hahaha! not too "taxing" either - Heeheeeheeee!!!

Lol David I did metion a wizzard lovely to see the children enjoying them selves on our tradtion. I wonder how long it will be before the Labour councils stop this, like they have in some cities like the chritmas trees.
