What to do

I was sick for a couple of years and couldn’t take care of my gardens. I have a bed around a big oak tree that stays damp and in shade that got completely out of hand. I almost hate to get in there because of snakes, poison ivy and no telling what else in there. I never planted the Ivy and several other things that are in there but apparently green stuff likes this location. My problem is I was thinking I might just cut a path and plant obedient plants and let it go wild. I’m getting too old to take care of this bed. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Looks like a hiding place for snakes :o(
Sorry to hear you haven't been well.
It seems you need something much easier to manage ?
Could you ask a younger friend to clear that whole area, and then decide what to plant once you see what's underneath ?
