12-15-2009 bulb experiment update!

2 comments

It’s a week before Christmas and my two “test bulbs” have put on additional growth this week to the tune of about a full INCH! I am still feeding the both of them with with compost tea and the “thrive product” when watering is needed.
The growth of the two bulbs is still close, with the “forced one” in the lavasand taking the lead tonight:

This little guy is almost up to 19 inches and the blooms are looking quite healthy, as you can see in the above photo.
The bulb in the organic soil is also looking good, but is falling behind in overall height pictured below:

Although the “organic paper white” might lack an inch in height over the “lavasand bulb”, he has a little hidden secret that the “lavasand bulb” has failed to do!
Healthy plants generally attempt to propagate themselves, right? We all know that.. Well, the little secret about the “Organically grown bulb” is out!
Although it might lack an inch in growing height over the “lavasand bulb”,
WE HAVE A BABY! Yes, a very healthy second bloom:

The new “baby” is growing like crazy and putting on new petals every day!
It will be interesting to see if the new bloom gets as large as the mother-bloom! Gotta love it! ;-)

Good grief! Your flowers are so beautifuul I could "smell" the paperwhites invading my space. I always love it when our plants offer us special gifts. Congrats on the "baby," and thanks from a neighbor in Louisiana.

Thanks for the compliments Hmhb! I have never grown Paperwhites and the fragrance that they give off is quite unique. They will be a "must plant" next spring out in my flowerbeds!
Take care over there in Louisiana.. You-all have some great native soil !
I'm so jealous! {chuckle}
