What a dreadful summer we’re having down here in Devon! Nothing stands a chance – cold… wind… wet… It’s blown over or out or just not growing.
Just when I need the garden to be at it’s best for a big family reunion next month – doh!

My buddleia's practically horizontal because of the wind, its roots are sticking out one side. I shall have to wait for the wind to abate before dealing with it though... what a dreadful year for gardens its been.

Agree. Hopefully the weather will improve next week.
Got to go down the allotment field in the morning to see if my cloches are all still firmly in the ground.
Prof.David Bellamy said this would happen in years to come, something to do with Baffin Island. I cant remember the detail.
Think its worse for older people, as we dont do 25 mile cross country walks anymore. Well Hywel does, the rest of us stay in and grumble.

Weather is really playing havoc we up here are at least getting some sun but its bitterly cold..........hope thing improve for your re-union

Oh Dear! I'm not sure whether or not it'll make it worse if I tell you that right now it's just too hot to sit out in the garden (39°c) here. Lawn already looking thirsty, and seedlings drying up within hours of being planted and watered in.

I'm cursing too - not only is the buddleia destroyed, but I've had to take down the wall container - this wind's ripped the contents to absolute shreds, and its flattened 2 roses downstairs now... I can't even bear the thought of popping to the shop for my newspaper, no idea what force the gale is, but its pretty bad...

Well at least we're all in the same boat (sorry for the pun!) but if you like Gattina, we can all bottle you up lots of rain and send it your way!
Who knows, by next month it maybe perfect again - here's hoping!

That would be really useful! If I could bottle some of the heat here and send it to you, I would. I can't understand how two such relatively close parts of the world can have such wildly diverse weather. Generally speaking, we get the same high winds or rain as you have all been having, just slightly mitigated and a couple of days later, but our 10 day forecast doesn't suggest any such thing this time.
