Couldn’t wait! As soon as I saw the recipe you posted for me, Bloomer, I just HAD to revive my childhood memories. Didn’t have any cherries in my store cupboard, so went without. They’re lovely! Just as I remember them from sixty years ago.

Have your recipe book laminated, Bloomer – just to protect its fantastic recipes! :oD Thanks again for posting the recipe.

Come on down! Kettle's on. How many sugars?
I didn't flatten them, Bloomer, I just baked them as they were on the tray - in round walnut-sized balls and got exactly what I expected and remembered. They're very tasty too and an instant hit with Partner who's requested that I make another batch before I go on a five-day trip to visit my daughter near Alicante next week. After counting how many he just had with his cuppa I think I'd better make that TWO batches! ;o)

Coffee was on the balcony, Sticki, gloating over our peach tree while eating home-made chocolate chip cookies. I must stop this now - It's all beginning to show on my hips!

oh no! it sounds too good to be true!
you could dip half of the melting moments in chocolate, that would be good!!

If they are from the Be-ro book then you could probably get another copy by writing to them. I did about 3 or 4 years ago when I got 2 new copies for my grown up children to use, as the recipes are so easy to follow and the book contains so many useful basic recipes.

My Mum had a Be-ro book and I have had mine since I was married 41 years ago, although it is now very tatty. I did get a new one when I got the ones for the kids so now I have two.

So how many did your mixture make,Nariz? I made the 20 it suggested, which were very small..no way would it have made walnut size pieces..Where abouts does your daughter live,? as my daughters partners parents live near there too..in a small town called Dolores..we went over for Christmas last year...

I'm afraid I left the recipe at that point, Bloomer, and just made the walnut-sized balls that I remembered my Mum doing all those years ago - I think it made around 15 .....?

Daughter lives in Javea - not heard of Dolores - perhaps that's on the west side of Alicante? We're driving down (10 hours!!!!!!) for New Year after a ferry trip back to Britain for Christmas this year.

I think its south/west,Nariz..about an hours drive from the Airport..I haven't heard of Javea either..that is going to be some drive..,your Christmas and New Year is going to be very hectic..!..We had a lovely time, but the weather was quite cool, and we needed our warm clothes..especially on the beach on Christmas morning, for the ex pats, traditional barbecue !..no paddling in the sea!

.... and Javea is about an hours' drive from the airport going north-east. No wonder we've never heard of each others' place! Yes, life will get a bit hectic for a few months - trip to Javea next week; drive to Andalucia during October to look for a little pied-a-terre; trip to Britain in November to visit my eldest daughter; ferry trip at Christmas to see Partners' family in Cardiff; then New Year drive to Javea again. I'm hoping January will be quiet! ;o)
