Veg patch

Need to blog quickly as I want to get food and a cup of tea!

Just finished getting my veg into the patch and watering it all.

I got very wet as the outside tap is at head height and too near the wall, so you can only fill the can down the spout (the hose won’t fit on to use that)

I hope the improvised scarecrow will work.

I have a totem-pole-like head to put over the mop but have to finish weatherproofing it first

Teatime! yay! yay! ttyl xx

Very ingenious. It may work until the birds get used to it - you could try hanging something shiny like old CDs on it as well - some people find that is effective too.
Absolutely love the head - I think it would frighten me off too! Brilliant!

Not the sort of thing one wants to see on a dark night! Hope the birds react the same way.

What have you planted?

So sorry for long delay in replying, have not had time to be here. The head looked great out there until it slid down to the foot of the pole instead of staying at the top. However, at a glance the top looks like one of the pigeons that come into the garden, and the head at the foot seems to be doing ok. The shoots are beginning to come up so it looks as if I will have something to harvest this year.

I have dwarf french beans that will have white pods speckled with pink, mange tout, cos lettuce, rainbow chard, purple kale, courgettes (those were an afterthought but I eat 1 or 2 a week so should be nice to just go and get them from the garden, my dad has grown them successfully for years so I hope I can do as well as he does) I mostly went for things that will look pretty as well as be good to eat, because of limited space. Plus things that are not so easy to find in the shops. Hence not growing tomatoes as so cheap in the shops anyway and need so much watering which is tricky for me. (tap at head height and can only fill down the can spout as too near the wall, hosepipe won't fit on it)
